The Nunda Academy opened on Mill Street in 1867. Known as the "Third Nunda Academy". According to Marjorie Frost "This was the first school built on the present school site, and in 1876 it was converted to the Union Free School District No. 1, which also took in four other nearby districts. The academy building became a wing of the old high school building when it was enlarged in 1904." This image probably dates from around 1870.
