To commemorate America's 250th birthday the NHS will be holding two special ceremonies on the morning of July 4th. At 9 AM we will, be rededicating the Revolutionary War Plot in Oakwood Cemetery where monuments to three Revolution War veterans buried in the cemetery can be found. The ceremony will include laying a memorial wreath by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Public welcome, use West Street gate. Parking available at the Seating Inc parking lot on West Street. At 10 AM we will be dedicating a new flag pole at our Historical Society building at 24 Portage Street. Refreshments served.
Join us on Wednesday, July 8th at 7 PM for the special presentation of The Story of Nunda: 1776–2026. Jump aboard for a fast-paced journey through time by local historian Tom Cook, with brief stops in Nunda from 1776 to the present. Using images and storytelling, this illustrated program explores the people, places, and events that shaped our area while connecting Nunda’s past to America 250 and our place in America’s story. Free and open to the public, light refreshments served.
The NHS Calendar "Growing Up in Nunda and Portage" is still available at the Nunda Family Pharmacy, Bell Memorial Library, on eBay and at the Nunda Historical Society. Supplies are limited! The Nunda Museum and Rose Shave Gallery will be open on Sunday, June 7th and Sunday June 21st from 2 to 4 PM. Also join us at the NHS Building on Sunday, June 21st at 2:30 for the first of two Alumni Memories programs. All Nunda/Dalton/Keshequa alumni are welcome to come and share your favorite school memories! The program is free and refreshments will be served. We will be collecting your stories for our archives. This is part of our Childhood Memories series of programs designed to collect and preserve memories and stories about growing up in the Nunda and Portage areas! A second session will be held on Wednesday evening, August 12th. This second session will include a zoom meeting so out of town folks can participate! Watch for login information.

We have added three new books to our list of local history books for sale! They are "The Diaries of Justus L. Barker: Book One 1855 to 1859" by Pam Cox, and "The Yesterday Series; Articles written by Thomas S Cook for the Nunda News 1977-1982, Vol 1 and 2. They are now available in the NHS gift shop, the Nunda Family Pharmacy and can be purchased on Amazon.
