The Nunda Bicentennial Committee is pleased to announce the release of its newest publication, Churches in the Town of Nunda and Vicinity. This book is the second in a series of publications detailing various aspects of history in the Nunda area.

Tom Cook, Bicentennial Publications Chairman and a history teacher at Keshequa Central School said, " The committee felt Nunda's Bicentennial was the perfect opportunity to begin to compile the numerous aspects of Nunda's past and share it. S o many people have first-hand information and memories of an 'earlier Nunda' that we need to capture before it is too late.

Local historical files contain bits and pieces of information, often incomplete, on many Nunda-area churches, but a comprehensive listing of all area churches or pertinent details relative to each did not exist. With just this basic information in hand, Sally Hall and Hope DePuy, both retired teachers from Keshequa Central School, stepped forward and accepted the challenge of organizing into one document the history of Nunda's religious institutions. Some churches had already written their history while others graciously contributed an article for the project. Several local persons were interviewed to help fill in the gaps and old copies of the Nunda News were consulted. Information on seventeen churches in included in this book along with pictures of existing churches as well as available pictures of those of by-gone days. To the extent possible, a list of clergy is included for each church.

The 100 page booklet is bound in a durable cover, is paged and has a bibliography. This volume is a valuable window from the past to 2007, 200 years of information.

Churches of the Town of Nunda and Vicinity may be purchased for $10 at the Bell Memorial Library, Nunda Historical Society, Nunda Family Pharmacy, Journey Quilts and Nunda town and village offices.
