The Nunda Bicentennial Committee is pleased to announce the December release of its newest publication, Two Centuries of Medical Care in the Town of Nunda and Vicinity. This book is the fourth in a series of publications detailing various aspects of history in the Nunda area. This book, by retired pharmacist Thomas Byrnes, covers the 200 years of medical care in the Nunda area. Drawing upon local histories, newspapers, scrapbooks, and memories of local residents, Mr. Byrnes documents over 70 doctors,nearly 20 dentists, and the several chiropractors who have practiced in the town from the early 1800s to the present day. He also traces the history of several local pharmacy, including the one operated by the Byrnes family for more than seventy years. Other chapters look at Nunda veterinarians and the many medical services over the years including the Nunda Hospital, Ambulance, the famous Water Cure, and more! The 130 page booklet includes over 30 photographs and other illustrations. It is bound in a durable cover and includes a bibliography. Thomas Byrnes was born and raised in Nunda. After earning his degree at from the Albany College of Pharmacy and serving two years in the US Army, he returned to Nunda to join the pharmacy business with his father, Paul. He retired after forty-six years as a pharmacist. He and his wife Barbara reside in Nunda.
